Man Fined $1,000 For False Police Report
Appearing in Magistrates Court today [Sept 23], William Bascome, 41, pleaded guilty to making a false report to police on 19th July 2014. Senior Magistrate Archie Warner fined Mr Bascome $1,000 with thirty days in prison to be served in default of payment.
Facts read in by Crown Prosecutor Susan Mulligan were that on 19th July 2014, Mr Bascome had loaned his motorcycle to another man. Later that day, that man was seen by police riding the cycle.
Police recognized him as a person who was disqualified, they sought to apprehend him but he escaped and police impounded the cycle.
Later that day, Mr Bascome called police to report that his cycle had been stolen. The next day, 20th July 2014, Mr Bascome was questioned by police. It was then that Mr Bascome admitted that he had, in fact, loaned the cycle but was not aware, at the time, that the man had been disqualified.
Mr Bascome apologized for his action.
