North Village Education Centre Set To Open

September 6, 2014

With the work necessary to move units from Dellwood Middle School to Bernard Park now complete, the North Village Education Centre is now ready to be opened, with an official ribbon cutting and associated barbecue scheduled for September 12.

The new Education Centre will aim to give children a safe environment in which to focus on their education even as they train in athletics.

A spokesperson said, “This will be a very historic day for North Village. The Education Centre will offer a safe, supervised environment in which our athletes can complete their homework prior to partaking in their training sessions.

“Children who would otherwise be left to their own devices will instead find themselves in a sheltered, safe, and nurturing learning environment under the guidance and influence of positive role models. The intent is not only to benefit the children academically, but to mentor our youth so that they may one day be positive role models in our community.

Overview of the North Village Education Centre initiative:

“The Education Centre will enhance some of the efforts North Village has already put in place in order to help our children understand the importance of education. North Village will implement progress reports whereby students must provide reports, completed by their school teachers and parents, on their academic standings, behavior, and home life.

“The reports will highlight positive attributes and accomplishments, as well as some of the challenges our children may have, so that we may assist in addressing the issues very specifically.

“In addition, the facility will be utilized to facilitate information sessions for parents and our student-athletes. We aim to empower them with effective strategies to enrich their lives. For examples, topics could include how to build a savings plan for your child’s post-secondary education, how to deal with bullying, the educational learning styles of boys, how to better connect with adolescents, or strengthening the family.

“Finally, the Education Centre will facilitate youth camps for students during the school holidays. The camps will offer not only great training sessions, but will also teach valuable life skills and strategies for positive social and academic development.

“We are committed to developing the whole child.”
