Chakeya_Ottley_RestaurantBermudian Chakeya Ottley was awarded third place in a recent New York Design Competition, which saw top representatives from all of the design programs in the state competing.

Ms. Ottley, 26, is a student at the New York School of Interior Design and is in her final year. She has maintained high grades, is on the Dean’s List, and is a tutor and a resident adviser.

The official website of the New York School of Interior Design said, “BFA student Chakeya Ottley was awarded third prize [$3,000] for her designs for The Industry, a coffee shop in the Domino Sugar Factory pictured left], and for Riot, a co-working space for gaming developers and events.”

Ms. Ottley also won a paid Starbucks internship this past summer after students had to design a new Starbucks store and present their designs to the company’s representatives and lecturers.

As the winner, she interned at one of their New York offices where her rendering work was utilized and her sign design approved and mounted in the city.
