Bacardi Queen Of Bermuda Tri On The 9th

October 27, 2014

The Queen of Bermuda Triathlon is on thanks to the efforts of the staff of the Fairmont Southampton and the local agencies in ensuring that Bermuda returns to “business as usual” following the unprecedented back to back storms Bermuda suffered in October.

Local race director, Neil de ste Croix, said “we are so grateful for everyone who has contributed in getting Bermuda back on its feet following the two recent storms”.

There are at least 100 athletes jetting in for the event which is being held on November 9, 2014. Bermuda will see newly crowned World Champion Triathlete, Flora Duffy race on home soil racing against the Wassner Twins of the US.

The event sees the athletes swim in the beautiful waters of the Fairmont Southampton Beach club, followed by a bicycle ride from the Horseshoe Bay to Barnes Corner making a u-turn and riding to a turn point at Bermuda College and then a return to Horseshoe Bay.

After a brief dismount off their bikes participants will run a 5km loop taking them along the Southshore towards Barnes Corner before returning to the finish at the Fairmount Southampton Beach Club.

De ste Croix went on to say “we are grateful to the Bermuda Department of Tourism Fairmont Southampton Hotel and Bacardi Limited for their support of this international event. The understanding of the public due to the temporary closure of a section of South Shore Road on race day is appreciated in order that we provide a world class and safe racing experience for the ladies.”

“I would urge the public to come out and not only watch the race but also volunteer to assist in making the race as safe as possible. Road marshals are required from 6:45am until approximately. 10:00am on race day. Interested persons can email seedney@northrock.bm for more details. T-shirts will be provided to the first 80 persons signing up to assist.
