J105 Class Preparing For Invitational Regatta
The Bermuda J105 Class is preparing for the second annual Bermuda J105 Invitational Regatta, sponsored by XL. Six teams are lined up for this event to be held November 20th-22nd, 2014, with racing to take place on the waters of the Great Sound in the J105 Class yachts.
This event will bring together sailors from the USA, Canada, UK, and Bermuda to form six teams competing for the XL Trophy [Overall Series]; the Bermuda Tourism Trophy [International Series]; and the Goslings Trophy [Bermuda Series].
Each team is made up of 3 international sailors and 3 Bermuda sailors, with alternating helmsmen. This unique format was used to great success last year, and there has been much international interest both in the event and the format.
Teams are representing the following international yacht clubs: USA- Corpus Christi Yacht Club, Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, Lakewood Yacht Club and Eastern Yacht Club; UK – Royal Yacht Squadron; and Canada – Royal Canadian Yacht Club. For Bermuda both Royal Clubs are represented.
The Island’s top Race Officer, Charles Tatem, will oversee the racing, and the event is hosted by The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. Racing gets underway shortly after 10am each day. A final fun race “The Last Blast” will round out the event.
