‘National Philanthropy Day’ To Be Held Today

November 14, 2014

The Centre on Philanthropy will host the first official celebration of National Philanthropy Day 2014 in Bermuda, by proclamation on the steps of City Hall today [Nov 14] from 12 noon to 1pm.

The Centre said, “National Philanthropy Day® [NPD] is a special day set aside in the United States on the fifteenth of November, with the first official events held in 1986 after President Reagan signed the official NPD proclamation.

“The purpose of this day is to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy—a day that highlights the accomplishments, large and small, that philanthropy—and all those involved in the philanthropic process—make to the enrichment of our society and our world.

“The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible. NPD celebrates the endless daily contributions individuals and organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions.

“The Centre on Philanthropy has joined in this global, grassroots movement to increase public interest and awareness of the importance of philanthropy, as well as provide knowledge on giving, volunteering and engagement at the charitable level so people can practice effective philanthropy.

“While many people show interest in giving or getting involved, they often need a little reminder about needs and to be inspired by goals and dreams. The theme of this year’s National Philanthropy Day is ‘Change the world with a giving heart.’

Elaine Butterfield, Executive Director, The Centre on Philanthropy added ‘The Centre on Philanthropy can assist you in achieving your goals to give back by providing tips and guidance on giving, volunteering expertise and connecting you with local causes. We are delighted to officially launch National Philanthropy Day in Bermuda to give tribute to those who contribute and give back so much to our community. These are our modern day heroes!’
