World Rugby Classic: South Africa & Lions Win

The 2014 World Rugby Classic got underway last night [Nov 9] at the National Sports Center in mixed conditions, with sunshine and rain highlighting the opening day of play, which saw a total of 91 points put on the board between the four teams.

Italy 7 – South Africa 21

In the opener, South Africa defeated Italy 21 – 7, South Africa got Try’s from Stefan Terblanche, Egon Seconds and Marc Watson, while Percy Montgomery kicked two Conversions and Delarey Du Preez kicked the other, Santiago Delappe scored the lone Try for Italy, he also added the Conversion.

United States 7 – Classic Lions 56

The Classic Lions ran up the score on the United States of America recording a 56 – 7 win. The United States of America team featured Waisale Serevi the King of Rugby 7’s and a legend on the pitch, but he could not inspire his teammates to the victory.

The Classic Lions got 2 Try’s from Dafydd James and Mark Blair. James Cockal, Gareth Bowen, Brian Rennie and Ben Breeze all added a Try each, Dan Parks and Bowen kicked 4 Conversions each. Mike Palefau scored the lone try for the United States of America and Serevi kicked the Conversion.
