Public Piano Project To Be Launched On Friday

December 10, 2014

The Bermuda Society of Arts [BSoA], in partnership with Pianos Plus, CellOne and the Corporation of Hamilton will officially unveil the Public Piano Project on Friday December 12th at 5:30pm.

Alicia Wanklyn, whose entry was selected as the winning design, has been decorating the piano with an exciting concept that will be featured on Nelly’s Walk outside of City Hall.

Joy T. Barnum, DemBiez and Tony Bari will perform alongside the piano during the grand unveiling, which will last until 6:30pm. The BSoA is inviting the people of Bermuda to attend this exciting event and observe the grand launch of the Public Piano Project.

The BSoA Public Piano Project is an adaptation of a project called “Play me I’m Yours” started in 2008 by Luke Jerram. More than 1,300 pianos have been decorated and placed around the world reaching over six million people.

The piano is currently being decorated in a retail space on the second floor of the old Washington Mall, which was kindly donated by Washington Properties. Members of the public can witness the piano being transformed until Friday morning.

The piano will be stationed under a tent and available for members of the public to listen to or use at their leisure outside City Hall until January 16th 2015. This project is an excellent synergy of public and performing arts where the piano is the art. The BSoA encourages everyone to come and enjoy this unique showcase.
