Video: Gombeys Make Their Boxing Day Rounds

As has been the tradition for many years, the Gombeys are out making their rounds on Boxing Day, helping the island celebrate the holiday season.

The island’s preeminent folk art, Gombeys traditionally span the island on Boxing Day and other holidays with the groups growing larger through the day as Bermudians start following along and dancing to the rhythmic beat of the drums.

    Even though we still have Gombeys celebrating the annual event/s we no-longer do see the crowds following them like of years gone-by :-(
    Oh how I can vividly recall my personal feelings; they’d been a mixture of fear and excitement when the visiting Gombeys came to the old neighborhood,(Lock’a)
    We, (Bermudians) seem to have lost our identity as a “people”, we want to dress like Americans, speak like West-Indians and spend monies like millionaires :-( What has happened u’lot?
