130 Years Of Service And Still Going Strong

January 21, 2015

Between them, they’ve clocked up 130 years with the same company – but Coralie Hayward, Louise Payne and Franzine Smith are still going strong.

They are all employees of Bermuda law firm Conyers Dill & Pearman and Ms Hayward has worked for the Firm for 45 years, Ms Smith 45 years and Ms Payne for 40 years.

“When I first started the Firm was very small. The offices were at the old Bank of Bermuda building on one floor,” said Ms Smith, who started as company accounts assistant when she was aged 19.

She added: “I remember the original partners, Dill family, the Pearman family, Charles Collis and Walter Maddocks. I never thought I would be here so long but I am not one of those people who every five years feels that they must move on.”

Ms Payne, who was 20 when she started at Conyers, added: “When we started we knew everyone, but the Firm has grown so much now. I remember moving to Clarendon House when the Firm really started expanding.”

And Ms Hayward, who started with Conyers aged 19, said: “I remember getting my long service award when I had worked for 15 years. I never thought then that I would be here after 45 years!”

Ms Payne is now a corporate manager with Codan Services, which is part of Conyers, Ms Hayward is an incorporations administrator with Conyers and Ms Smith works in the Firm’s trust accounts department.

Stephen DeSilva, Conyers’ Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, paid tribute to the three women, saying: “To work for one company for so long is virtually unheard of nowadays.

“This really is an incredible achievement and we are very grateful to Coralie, Louise and Franzine for staying with us for so long and sharing their immense experience.”
