I appreciate the police service but to cite what they do on a regular basis doesn’t make my heart melt. Last I checked they get paid and also get paid overtime something I don’t get but I’m still required to perform as a consummate professional.

The police are supposed to be held to a “Higher Level” (better trained) when it comes to driving on the roads… They are in the states – and it’s not rocket science!!

I have NOT seen one police induced accident in 20 yrs in Arizona!!

SMH says it all as he lists at least 18 Police accidents!! I say they (police) need to go back to “basics” and *Driving School*!! There is a high degree of incompetence in the local BDA force – concerning driving-under-duress!! How can anyone NOT see that point!!

I saw an accident once where this guy slammed into a govt truck that was not even moving, flew over the truck- the police on the scene did not even look for witnesses, they did not even give the guy a breath test, and when the public asked why- get this- the cops said “the guy said he doesn’t drink”- if this accident that happened today was a citizen instead of a cop, the guy would now be locked up under suspicion of alcohol or drugs, believe me. double standard

No body is immune from “Road Risk” .

A traffic accident can happen to any one at any time when they least expect it.

Driving a 4 wheeled vehicle is no different than piloting a small plane requiring extreme caution.

Driving a motorcycle in no different than piloting a fighter jet requiring extreme caution.

All it takes is a micro second.

The police need to take their own advice. Not saying it happened here, but many a time a police vehicle has been speeding when not even responding to an emergency. When members of the public complain about police and their speed, the response is that the officers are ‘highly trained’ to travel at high speeds. However, they are only human and there have been a few collisions of police vehicles recently to prove it. They need to set an example before they suffer a true tragedy. If speed was a factor here, I hope it is a lesson to them to follow their own advice and SLOW DOWN!

There are a few sensible people on here and I’m one of them.
I could give you endless simpathetic reasons as to why this happened today but,
I’d just be guessing like most of the smart *** people making the remarks I’m reading here.
Who cares how it happened from your points of view or who’s vehicle is involved etc etc etc.

You call this a “few” accidents? These are just the ones we know about. Plus, being on the road all of the time doesn’t increase your chance of an accident. My dad and brother drove taxi for years, every single day, and neither has ever been in an accident. As for speed, they’re supposed to be trained for that so we shouldn’t accept the nonsense you’re feeding us.

What allowances? The BPS has to take furlough days, just like other government employees, so their pay got cut. Overtime got slashed, but they are still expected to put in the extra time required to keep YOU safe. Something the military taught me – always remember your equipment was made by the lowest bidder, don’t expect it to work (and it frequently didn’t, which cost two of my colleagues their lives when in a training exercise their parachutes didn’t work!). Police Officers risk their own safety on a regular basis trying to keep everyone else safe, and frequently their reward is to take a load of abuse because the don’t get to the scene of a break in quickly enough, or they pull someone over for driving drunk.

A big THANK YOU to the officers of the BPS for all you do to keep the rest of us safe and I hope the officer involved in this collision makes a speedy recovery.

I am totally baffled by the fact that the police are seeking witnesses to this accident as I was one of only three people who witnessed the whole thing but were shooed away by the acting inspector. And when I questioned whether statements would be taken i was told they would only need our names and numbers and someone would be in contact. Puzzled

Wow!! I knew there had been a few, but didn’t realize it was that many. The one that stands out in my mind was the cruiser that was written off after a bird flew in the window.

In any event, I hope that the officer makes a full recovery. Poor sight, I’m sure he’s going to get a lot of ribbing from his fellow officers.

The joke is this incident. With all the recent incidents and all the talk I’m the media about road safety and police doing something about it, then we have an officer in a single vehicle accident. And don’t give me that about an oil spill, anyone that drives or rides knows that area is area you need to take extra caution on a dry day.
