U18 Football Team For Game vs USA Named
The Bermuda Football Association announced the players and coaching staff comprising the U18 Men’s National Select Team that will represent Bermuda in two friendly international matches against the USA U17 men’s national team.
The matches will be played on February 20th and 22nd, 2015 at the US Soccer training base in Florida, located at the IMG Academy complex that houses the USA’s U17 residential program.
Bermuda has been invited to provide international opposition on the eve of the USA’s participation in the final U17 CONCACAF Championships and World Cup qualifying tournament to be played fromFebruary 27th to March 15th, 2015.
The US coach, Richie Williams, recently named 28 players to the U17 MNT 2015 residency program at Bradenton, Florida. Their squad list retains 24 players from the fall and adds 4 newcomers for the spring.
Both the Bermuda and USA U17s participated in the Mexico Federation’s U16 tournament last summer. Bermuda, who was coached by Andrew Bascome, were grouped with Portugal, Columbia and Chile and played these higher ranking teams competitively in close matches.
BFA National Academy Director, Richard Todd, will lead the coaching staff along with Don Vickers and Kyle Lightbourne, who has been assisting with training preparations. The squad selected will feature a combination of local based, UK and US based Bermuda players. The coaching staff is using this event to look at the player pool and prepare for the 2016 CFU & CONCACAF U20 Championships.
Promising youngster, Jaquari Paynter [U15 National Team player pool], will be given the chance to gain international experience ahead of this summer’s U15 CONCACAF Championships to be played in the Cayman Islands.
The team departs Bermuda Wednesday February 18th and will return on Monday February 23rd, 2015. Training will continue with sessions @ BFA Field on Monday 7:00-8:30 PM, Wednesday 6:15-7:15 AM,Wednesday 5:30-7:00 PM and Friday 7:00-8:30 PM
