Hamilton Princess is currently undergoing phase two of a $90 million renovation and restoration project. This includes a renovation of the guestrooms in the main building and Gazebo Wing, the development of a new signature restaurant and extensive renovations of the hotel grounds.

Phase two of the restoration works began last September and will run through the Spring of 2015. In terms of construction, 175 workers are currently working on the Hamilton Princess site and an additional 23 are working on the Princess Beach Club site in Southampton.

“The upgrades to the property have been supported by the Government, who has welcomed the Green Family’s commitment to Bermuda and its tourism product,” a spokesperson said.

Premier Dunkley said, “Phase one of Hamilton Princess’ renovations were nothing short of spectacular and I am very much looking forward to seeing the finished product of the current refurbishments and upgrades.

“This week, I had the pleasure to participate in the groundbreaking of West Hamilton Holdings’ seven-storey executive condominium complex – a project that will be a boost to the construction industry and be a significant contributor in job creation. Yesterday, I was encouraged to see the impressive progress taking place at the Hamilton Princess.

“These upgrades have resulted in a considerable boost in jobs for Bermudians. And once the refurbishments have been completed, jobs will continue to be generated as individuals will be needed to work within various areas of the hotel,” added the Premier.

“So as I noted earlier this week, confidence in Bermuda is growing, there are positive things happening in our economy, and the Government is very appreciative of the commitment and dedication shown by the Green Family.”

Mr. Green said, “We are excited to see the America’s Cup coming to Bermuda which will bring worldwide exposure and help all Bermudians. The amount of work we have completed in two years has been extraordinary and sets an exciting precedent for the America’s Cup that Bermudians can build a luxury product in that time.

“With the renovated rooms, world class Samuelsson restaurant and the new Princess Beach Club we will have a product that can compete with other destinations in the world. Without government support we would still be on the drawing boards which is a credit to their desire to cut through the bureaucracy and move Bermuda forward.”

      Fact.

    • For The Record says:

Senator Baron is the Premier’s political advisor and the Premier’s junior minister for National Security. He also speaks to economic development in Senate as part of his Senate portfolio. It’s perfectly logical that he and the Premier will be in near constant company on matters.

  6. Common Sense says:

So we have really great news about a Bermuda family investing heavily in our hotel industry, with no end in sight, and all some people can think of is making a few snide remarks to try to put a negative spin on things. Certainly shows the calibre of some of our bloggers!

The OBA is encouraging things to happen after the 14 year long experiment that went wrong.
