All Buses, But One, To Run As Normal Tomorrow

March 5, 2015

Following days of multiple bus runs being cancelled, the Department of Public Transportation advised that the only bus run that will be cancelled tomorrow [March 6] is route 10 at 7:15am from St. George’s to Hamilton, with all other buses set to run on the normal schedule.

A spokesperson said, “The Department of Public Transportation would like to advise the public that the only bus run that will be cancelled tomorrow is route 10 at 7:15 a.m. from St. George’s to Hamilton. All other buses will run as usual.”

The BIU called a meeting for the Bus Operators & Allied Workers Division at 7.00pm tomorrow, at BIU headquarters, with the agenda to be “cancelled runs” and “all overtime for time and one half.”

Last month representatives from the Transport Ministry and BIU met to discuss the disruption in bus service, and Transport Minister Shawn Crockwell has said there are 10 bus operators out on long term sick leave, and the department has implemented a ban on overtime, so the combination is impacting the scheduling.

  1. Observer says:

    Weather is better now…

Time to go back to work.

  2. Cynical says:

Good news. Even better news is that 9 of the 10 drivers on long term sick all got better on the same day.

The next move is for the BIU to attempt to force through the overtime. If Government “stand strong” (to borrow a phrase), then I predict that the drivers will all get sick again.

    • Mockingjay says:

They are still sick, Govt just agreed to pay those who cover for them, just as its been done for decades.
These Dreamers are trying their best to manhandle the Unions, like when Bob wrote that threatening letter but backfired when he saw People Power.

      • serengeti says:

It isn’t ‘people power’. The unions aren’t ‘the people’. They are a selfish minority.

      • aceboy says:

They have been pulling the overtime game for decades? I agree, it is time it is stopped. They aren’t sick, they are pretending to be sick. Name them and shame them.

  3. somuchless says:

It is amazing how they can all get sick at the same time and they can all get better at the same time.

  4. brigadooner says:

Why are they announcing this like its an accomplishment to be congratulated?

  5. Family Man says:

It’s nothing short of a miracle. Somebody inform the Pope. We’ve seen a real miracle healing event here.

Cold and flu season are now officially over.

  6. Old Church Lady says:

Its a miracle no less! Praise the Lord. I knew my prayers would heel these brave bus drivers – the power of prayer. The Lord cured them all on the very same day – praise be to him on the highest!

    Humbly the cross eyed bear.

    Amen.

  7. Terry says:

Reminds me of a show I attended many years ago in New York City.

Miracle On 42nd Street; now playing at the BIU Theatre.

    I need a rum and honey……..

  8. Sky Pilot says:

why does everyone try to cover up the truth…these so called sick out drivers are LIARS!
They do not deserve a job when there are 1000′s of unemployed Bermudians.

    • Wise Up says:

Sky Pilot you should never say they are LIARS! Just as you MAY remember that there had been some fund raising events for the operators out sick well they are truly out sick. If they are having treatment in Boston etc. than what would you call that? Stop the BS talk if you don’t know what you are talking about. People like you are full of horse **** when you really don’t know a thing. Give your work an honest day and be thankful you have a job to go to.

  9. Observer #2 says:

It amazes me how some people think that the bus operators who are out on sick leave are only out for the flu, hope you do not get sick and have to have an operation which is not planned or have to be flown abroad in an air ambulance,go get a life sickness comes at any expected time of the year.

    • Wise Up says:

I agree!! I was always told that empty barrels make the most noise.

  10. Raw Onion says:

What a miraculous healing!!! I would sure like to know who the driver’s doctors are.

  11. serengeti says:

Bermuda. Where it’s a newsworthy event when nearly all the buses are running.

  12. Hurricane says:

Given the fact that so many people rely on these busses and so many of them were not operating, it’s only right that they make this announcement. However, much more of this and people will find other means of transport and these drivers will be out all together and I don’t mean sick.

  13. Cardine Alice says:

Aren’t they just pitching up so they can attend the meeting, then no buses for anyone to get home tomorrow night right?

But at least they are better than the ferries who schedule meetings for morning rush hour!

Public transport should be an essential serves and wild cat strikes in whatever guise should be stopped.

  14. Lebron says:

    AA NYC flight cancelled though….

  15. You can care awl you want to…. but it don’t mean nuthin without the means tovhelp them…. you can’t help nobody if you can’t help yourself. Think about it.

  16. MAKE MY DAY says:

How about the drivers??? Will they return as well – or keep calling-in sick!!!
