Photos: Earth Hour Promoted On East Broadway

March 28, 2015

In an effort to promote this evening’s [Mar 28] Earth Hour festivities, members of Greenrock and Earth Hour Bermuda stationed themselves on East Broadway yesterday morning to greet morning commuters.

Greenrock is partnering with Waterfront Properties and a number of other organisations to host the annual celebration, and for the seventh year running, the City of Hamilton will turn dark for one hour, from 8:30pm until 9:30pm, in the hopes of sending a powerful message promoting a brighter future for our planet and its inhabitants, stressing the importance of living sustainably.

Eugene Dean, Greenrock founding member and Earth Hour Chairman, said there will be “great entertainment for the evening” with the event kicking off at 7pm and wrapping up around 10:00pm.

“We are hopeful that the community at large will participate with us on March 28th at the Waterfront on Pitts Bay Road,” added Mr. Dean.

The feature activity during this evening’s campaign will be a 5K Glow Fun Walk and Run through the City of Hamilton during the “lights out” period from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

The race route will take participants from the Waterfront Properties on Pitts Bay Road, as far as King Street and back using parts of Woodbourne Avenue, Richmond Road, Serpentine Road, Dundonald Street, Cedar Avenue, Victoria Street, Reid Street, Court Street and Front Street.

Despite today’s less than welcoming weather, the event is set to continue with a spokesperson saying “The race, which starts at 8:30 at the Waterfront Properties on Pitts Bay Road, will go forward rain or shine.

“Walkers and Runners are encouraged to bring their own water bottles and appropriate attire given the forecast of possible wind and rain tomorrow evening. We look forward to seeing you there.”
