March 14, 2015

[Updated with videos] Over $115,000 was raised last night [Mar 13] as people, ranging from children to adults, stepped up to have their heads shaved as part of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser to find a cure for childhood cancer.

The event was held at the Docksiders on Front Street, with dozens of people having their heads shaved as family, friends and supporters looked on. The event has been held each year in Bermuda since 2002 and sees participants obtain financial pledges in exchange for shaving their heads.

As of this writing, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation website lists Shuri Munt as the top individual fundraiser with some $26,855 in pledges, Tash Pethick with $14,559 in pledges and Leila P third with $13,315.00 in pledges.

As far as team fundraising, the Deeky Boys — a team incorporating a father and his three sons —  have raised $14,925, while [Br]eaking [Ba]ld attained some $6,505 in pledges and Rog&marta raised in $3,065 in pledges.

Proceeds raised from the events in Bermuda will be managed by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre to fund the SunSmart program and by the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund life-saving research.

I’ll be impressed IF all the money pledged is coughed up by those that did.

Really???? that is best you can come up with to say about this brilliant event? In order to get a pledge recognized on the website the funds have to be submitted by online payment. This is a great charity event. Look forward to seeing you up on stage having your head shaved next year. Congrats to all participants.
