Feedback Invited On National Electricity Policy
The Department of Energy is inviting public commentary on their consultation document, “The National Electricity Sector Policy for Bermuda.”
A spokesperson said, “It can be found online or in hard copy from the Department of Energy office at Corner House, 4th floor, 20 Parliament Street. The Government will this year consider new rules to regulate Bermuda’s electricity sector.
“The Department of Energy is working with stakeholders to develop new policies and regulations for all facets of the electricity industry, including customer rights and rules by which small and large scale power producers will need to abide.
“The policy will also allow wider participation in the development of national energy plans, so that the determination of the future energy mix for Bermuda is no longer solely the responsibility of the utility.
“Written comments on the policy document will be welcomed until close of business March 20, 2015. The department will review all information obtained and respond to each submission.”
Department Director, Jeane Nikolai, said, “Energy policy has continued to evolve from the Energy Green Paper, the White Paper and more recently through consultation with some of the most knowledgeable authorities available.
“The Government believes that the electricity sector should be efficient, environmentally sustainable, secure and affordable.
“The policy proposal is the culmination of some preliminary work done by the Energy Working Group. But it is only the beginning of Bermuda’s road toward a modern, efficient and environmentally sensitive energy regime.”
Interested parties are urged to read and comment on the draft policy by the March 20 deadline.
Belco-+Belco Regulators-are a bad joke! Oil drops FIFTYpct-but a mere FIVEpct tax increase -results in Belco INCREASING their bills($8)!! Basic math says something’s very wrong there!! Arrgh!
Basic Math proves Gov’t makes a profit off of the Fuel Adjustment. Gov’t revenu fell when the price of gas dropped.. and this not only applies to BELCO but at the pump. So it will cost more as of April 1 to fill up your tank.
