Mariners Win Scully, Renegades Win Nicholl
In weekend rugby action, Mariners defeated the Police to win the Scully Cup Final, while the Renegades recorded a 34 -13 victory over the Police to win the Nicholl Shield.
Scully Cup Final: Mariners 3 – Police 2
In the Scully Cup Final the Mariners beat Police 3-2, thanks to an extra-time try from Gina Newson. Police took the lead through Karen Coetzee, before Deneika Borden tied the game at 1-1.
Jo Godfrey’s 50m sprint gave Police the lead again, but Borden broke the Police defensive line and put Shara Crunden over for a try to send the game into sudden-death extra-time. Gina Newson glided through a gap to score the match wing try, and hand Mariners the Scully Cup.
Nicholl Shield: Renegades 34 – Police 13
Renegades won the Nicholl Shield 34-13. Renegades got tries from Callum Maule, Tom Healy, Jahan Cedenio, Pete Dunkerly; while Police got tries from Rudeolf van der Westhuizen and Mike Halbert and Mike Kane got a penalty.
