Car & Motorcycle Collision On East Broadway
[Updated] A road collision has taken place on East Broadway in Hamilton this afternoon [Mar 26] resulting in traffic diversions in the area.
Emergency service personnel attended the scene and police now have the area blocked off from the motoring public. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.
Update 4.29pm: A police spokesperson said, “At approximately 3:37pm today March 26th , first responders attended a report of a road traffic collision that took place on East Broadway across from the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
“It appears that a 34 year old Paget man was travelling east on said road when it appears that he lost control of his motorcycle and veered into the other lane and collided with a car traveling in the same direction.
“As a result the man was taken to KEMH where he is being treated for head and shoulder injuries. The full extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
“Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen this incident to contact Police on 295-0011.
“We would like to thank the motoring public for their patience at this time. Traffic leaving town is being diverted up Lane Hill. At present motorists are to expect major traffic delays in the area.”

Update 6.20pm: A police spokesperson said, “Motorists are advised that normal traffic flow has since resumed along East Broadway.”
Update Mar 27, 1.53pm: A police spokesperson said, “At last check the 34 year old Paget parish man injured in a reported two vehicle collision on East Broadway near to the junction with Lane Hill in Pembroke around 3:37pm yesterday March 26th was treated for his injuries and released.
“Inquiries are ongoing and any witnesses that have not already come forward are encouraged to contact PC Simon Fraser on sfraser@bps.bm or the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

I hope he is ok. I am surprised there are not more accidents on East Broadway with people creating a “third lane”. Having said that, we don’t know what caused this accident.
Unlikely to have been a third-lane situation at that time of day. Best to the person for a speedy recovery.
Third laning is not the accident causer people think it is….unless of course you are one of the car drivers who feel aggrieved that bikes are getting past and decide to take the law into your own hands. I have been riding bikes on this island for over 33 years and there has ALWAYS been 3rd laning. Without it we would all have to leave home at least a half hour earlier than usual.
agreed and this would also mean traffic would be far slower. If everyone slowed down accidents would be far less.

I once passed a woman in a car on Front Street , in a most civilized and slow fashion seeing she couldn’t appear to make up her mind where she was going .
As soon as I was in front of her she sped alongside me so I was trapped up and deliberately pushed me into the oncoming lane .
All too often.
I’m sure I speak for a lot of people when I say this, but the amount of times I’ve had to adjust my driving (speed and position) while in a car because some maniac is flying towards me, trying to overtake as many cars as possible before nipping back into his/her lane is astounding. Other drivers probably take the same precautions when they see this same thing, and most likely react in the same way – so no wonder riders still ride the way they do! Ego is flying high without realizing we’re having to make corrections so that their f*** up doesn’t end horribly!

Another accident this morning at the bottom of Berkley road.
As a 30 year motorbike riding guy, here and in other countries, I can tell you “Third laning” or filtering is FINE along as it’s done at a sensible speed. As Aceboy says, if all those bikes sat in a lane taking up as much space as a car, no-one would get anywhere on this tiny island. They key thing is to do it at a safe speed.
We could use some proper motorcycle and car driving training along with some aggressive ‘Driving without due care and attention” policing too!
i think lots of you don’t realize that we are not commuting by horse n buggy anymore…that’s when Bermuda was Another World…laid back relaxing trot up da road…BUT, somebody wanted to be like de states…now we living like the Jetsons…you feel me? “Livin’ la Vida Rapido”…A serious overhaul of the training or requirements to earn a licence needs to be addressed.
I’ve seen so many accidents and near accidents in that spot simply because cars are making unexpected stops at the new rumble strips. Surely the intent was honourable, but those damn things are dangerous and causing accidents.

one more ting…unless of a road fatality…NO accident should disrupt traffic flow for the unreasonably lengthy waits like it does here…total shut down in all directions…bedda hope nuffin serz ever happens hur.
I don’t want a smart a.. answer but would a bike rider please tell me why a bike rider thinks that he/ she has to be out in front of the traffic.
It never ends….A lot of people need to have their licenses reviewed – or retake the license application!! For an Island the size of BDA – the accident rate is ridiculous!!
Do the members of the BPS not ever travel? Do they not notice how LEOs in other jurisdictions deal with traffic in similar situations?
How much sense did it make to send all westbound traffic eastbound to corkscrew hill or even as far as Tee Street when all that was needed to be done was close one of the inbound lanes to traffic at Crow Lane & let the outbound traffic use that lane till the other half of Tessie’s Highway was open again?
This stuff is dead simple. But Noooooo, all of the westbound middle road rush hour traffic gets dumped onto eastbound traffic on Lane Hill.
They really are the Keystone Cops sometimes.
