55-Year-Old Woman Denies Assaulting Child

Appearing in Magistrates Court today [Apr 29], a 55-year-old Warwick woman denied charges of assaulting a small child in her care.

Carmen Butterfield was charged with unlawfully assaulting the toddler in January of this year. Butterfield is also charged with on a date unknown between December last year and January this year, having care in control of that child, wilfully abused, ill-treated and/or neglected him.

Butterfield is also faced with a third charge, in that on January 23 this year, without reasonable excuse, carried on as a day care provider, while not being registered.

Butterfield pleaded not guilty to all three charges. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted the woman $10,000 bail and ordered that she reappear before the court for trial June 25.
