ABIR Holds Insurance Seminar for BFIS Interns

The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers’ [ABIR] Senior Vice President and Deputy Director Leila Madeiros held a 2-hour seminar on the history of [re]insurance in Bermuda and contemporary innovations in the marketplace for interns with the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies [BFIS].

The seminar helps kick off the annual BFIS ‘Intro-to-Insurance’ summer intern program open to junior and senior undergraduate and post-graduate students that offers an in-depth understanding of the Bermuda [re]insurance industry and explores potential career paths.

Ms. Madeiros presented students taking part in the workshop, including four Bermudians, with relevant information and knowledge on the fundamental role that Bermuda’s international insurance and reinsurance sector plays on an ecumenical scale. “As always, I am enthusiastic to interact and share with the BFIS interns; contemporary market conditions in the industry allow for thoughtful and engaging dialogue,” says Madeiros.

The participants of this workshop include Bermudian university students Ciara Burrows [University of Waterloo, Legal Studies and Economics], Zachary Friesen [Trinity Western University, Business] Sydney Neal [McGill University, Finance and Business] Yuki Sun [Heriot-Watt University, Actuarial Science]. Other participants visiting from America were Stefani Arapidis [Illinois State University, Insurance and Finance] and Courtney Guzzino [Illinois State University, Insurance and Finance].
