Reverend Bernice King Visits Cabinet Office
Yesterday [May 4], Premier Michael Dunkley welcomed Rev. Dr. Bernice King, daughter of legendary civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, to the Cabinet Office.
Premier Dunkley and Rev. King, discussed an array of matters, including social justice, her work with the King Centre and her commitment to honour the legacy of her parents.
Rev. King who spoke recently to commemorate the 50 year anniversary of her father’s participation in the Selma march, was the guest speaker at the Electricity Supply Trade Union banquet last weekend.
Premier Dunkley said today, “I was pleased to welcome Rev. Bernice King to the Cabinet Office. She was very engaging and is a truly inspirational figure.
“I was keen to hear about the work she is doing with the youth in Atlanta and other US cities and her efforts to continue her father’s legacy of community empowerment and engagement.”
It’s certainly a pleasure having someone of your stature visiting us here on the Island…Please Reverend Bernice King do feel welcomed, also do not hesitate coming back to aid them in need of social / spiritual support etc.

She was dressed in formal attire at her speaking event (evening gown, heels).
One of the event hosts took her and her assistant on sightseeing rounds and the attire for that was very casual. They had her laying down visiting with dolphins. That’s just the way the schedule was planned out for her. She actually doesn’t wear jeans a lot.

First of all if you really knew Elder Bernice you would know what are true style is, and she is very down to earth and a real person, and she is not one that is known to get all caught up in the glitz of things, this is also not her first visit to Bermuda and has been here several times before, try doing some research on here latest venture that she started prior to leaving Bishop Eddie Long’s church at new Birth and it might just amaze you that she feels more down to earth, with the people she represents, just by being herself, so stiff necks get over it.

If the opportunity exists, please ensure you listen to her address at the ESTU banquet. Her emphasis on non violence 365 is quite refreshing since it requires all of us to seek to elevate and not denigrate. It speaks volumes about labout negotiations and Bermuda’s political reality.
We must mutually seek the higher ground when we fundamentally disagree.
That can only happen when we seek to see all issues from each other’s perspective.

It was indeed a privilege to have had the opportunity to listen to Dr. King in her keynote speech on Saturday night. One of her very powerful messages was to admonish us to not put party politics before country.
If ever there was a message of cohesion, Dr. King delivered it. Thank you Dr. King. May you continue to have God’s blessing on your work and your impact within the United States and the world at large. You are indeed a treasure
