“While running to raise funds for non-profits is nothing new to “The Weekenders Running Group”, the idea to run for the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation is very personal to members, Deborah Pharoah-Williams and Tali Gabai-Maiato.

“Both lost their siblings, Dennis and Kaelenne in the past 2 years to suicide. By sharing their stories, we hope to raise both money and awareness for the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation to help connect dedicated resources with those that need immediate help.

“Too often there is a stigma associated with seeking help for depression or admitting to depression at all. The Weekenders have raised funds to help provide resources for anyone who needs help during a very trying time.

“The Weekenders also seek to remove the stigma associated with seeking help for depression by talking about it openly, as this could happen to any one of us.

“When Deborah approached the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation requesting to raise money that can be contributed to the Rethink Mental Health Campaign, specifically about raising awareness around depression and suicide prevention, we were elated,” said Ms. Lewis, spokesperson for the Foundation.

“The Foundation has launched a yearlong campaign that is focused on combating stigma and raising awareness around mental illness in Bermuda. We are excited that members of the community have come together to assist us with achieving our mission and we look forward to working with Deborah and Tali.”
