Heyliger & Fletcher To Compete At FINA Worlds

June 12, 2015

Rebecca Heyliger and Julian Fletcher are set to represent Bermuda at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia from July 24 to August 9, 2015.

A spokesperson said, “BASA has concluded the process for selecting the swimmers to represent Bermuda at the FINA World Championships in Kazan.

“The selection process for World Championships was circulated in January of this year and posted on the BASA website. The qualification times were set out by FINA at either the A or B Standard and BASA’s OTC also established minimum times to be eligible for consideration for the World Championships.

“At the end of the qualification period on 31 May, Roy-Allan Burch was the only swimmer that had achieved the B Standard for Kazan, but due to his injury he will be unable to compete at the championships. No other swimmers had achieved the BASA selection times.

“At this point with no qualifying or selection times achieved we had to look at all of our elite athletes to determine who would meet our final selection criteria by demonstrating continued progression towards the Olympic B Standard times.

“At the conclusion of this process it was decided unanimously that BASA would send 2 athletes to the FINA World Championships. Rebecca Heyliger will be our female representative and Julian Fletcher will be our male representative. BASA would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both Rebecca and Julian for their selection.

“We would also like to congratulate all of our elite athletes for their performances to date and hope that they will all continue to strive for the ultimate goal of Olympic qualification.”
