Anglican Church Stands With A.M.E. Church

June 18, 2015

The Rt. Revd. Nicholas Dill, the Bishop of Bermuda, reached out to the island’s A.M.E. church leadership today [June 18] to express “deepest condolences” on behalf of the Anglican Church of Bermuda, following the attack on Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

Bishop Nick described the attack made against church members at prayer as “cowardly”, and went on to say, “As a Church, we prayed for the families of the nine victims, including their Pastor, Rev. Clementa Pinckney, at a prayer gathering at 12:00 noon at the Cathedral on Thursday 18th June and commit to do so going forward. May those who died rest in peace, and those who live experience the comfort and strength of Christ amidst their shock and grief.”

Writing to the members of the A.M.E. Church, Bishop Nick expressed solidarity in the face of evil actions, “When one part of the body suffers, we all suffer. We stand alongside you to offer whatever help and support we can, praying that that the living hope we share will grant strength and peace in the midst of this nightmarish situation.”

Expressing “shock” after the shooting Progressive Labour Party leader, Marc Bean said, “The Progressive Labour Party would like to express our shock and complete horror at the news of the massacre at the historic Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

“This type of hate crime brings back memories of times not too long ago in the American South and is a timely reminder of the challenges we still face in this regard. We stand in solidarity with Emmanuel A.M.E. and our prayers go out to our A.M.E. families both in Bermuda and abroad. We hope that the perpetrator will be brought to swift justice.”

I think… I might be missing something entirely.

  2. Casual Observer says:

Stand him up and do the same to him as he did to those poor people.

He has proven himself to be useless to society and as such society does not need him.

And America, you really need to get to grips with your out of control gun culture.

    • Rosie Marangiello says:

Before blaming America, UK or anywhere else for things … (catching colds, job losses and this, among other things) … best to “get to grips” here too … everybody watches and reads news, most not good, so what are we doing … time to pull up socks. stop blaming and pointing fingers, we all can do something, anything, summer just kicking off, please God, let’s have safe one.

    • Mockingjay says:

Thats too easy, lock him up with de Black section.

  3. Kim Smith says:

Yes, this is a despicable act which must be condemned as pure evil. America needs to get to grips with this scourge in its boundaries.

  4. Well done Bishop Dill and our prayers go out to the victims family, and our support to the African Methodist Episcopal churches World wide, as we have lost a fellow soldier in the Gospel, along with faithful men and women of God.

It is amazing to me to sit and ponder how a hate crime of this nature be in the life of someone so young, but that apple can only be as bad as the tree that it came from, and the sad thing as tragic as this event is, we have parents even in this country who have poison their own children’s minds all based on the color of the skin, and this sad to say is widely found in both the White and Black community in Bermuda.

Hopefully we will never see the likes of this in Bermuda, that one would have to die because of being hated for the color of their skin.

    • JustAskin2 says:

So tragic. But someone instilled this hate into him. Given a .45 for his birthday by his father, really? And heaven only knows what he was being taught at home.

Only a total f00l will hate someone based on the color of their skin. And unfortunately there are a lot of racist id10ts out there with guns.

It is my opinion that these recent race killings (cops killing black men, cop stomping on a 14-year-old, this incident) all stems from the acquittal of Trevon Martin’s killer.

They have set a bad precedent and since then all of the racist sickos have been coming out from under their rocks.

  5. cotty says:

First…condolenses to all affected by this heinous crime!
Sadly it’s not the gun shooting someone….it’s the individual in control of it.
What’s interesting is those states that provide permits for openly carrying firearms are experiencing the least crime!

  6. Rhonnie aka Blue Familiar says:

The shooting is truly a horrific crime, a true hate crime and yes, an example of terrorism.

Everything points to the fact that this man/boy committed the act and he needs to be dealt with to the full extent of the available law. Personally, I would wish on him worse than the law allows because far too often the penalties available are not truly justice.

I hope they also take a good look at others he has been in contact with so that someone else does not take up to follow the same path.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of those murdered, and with those who are traumatised by this crime.

  7. impressive. says:

I have found the current Bishop to be pretty cool and objective. I like his style, and I agree with his statements.. Go Bishop Dill

  8. woa says:

My heart jumped until read the part about this not taken place in Bermuda. Still bad though. wait for me bermy im coming back home.

  9. Northshore says:

Sorry, this evil criminal needs be put up against a wall and shot between the eyes. Problem is America won`t do that ! What they will do is talk about what happened for 20 years!

    • JustAskin2 says:

They will probably try to psycho-analyze him and point to mental health, poor upbringing, outside influence or other excuses for this kid’s demented acts.

What makes this crime so horrific to me is that he prayed for an hour with the congregation before announcing what he was going to do to them and opening fire.

What kind of mind does that?

  10. stunned... says:

the act of this deliberate killing raises many socio-psycho questions including the theological debate of the existence or even the omnipotence of god. curious…
