Cricket: Champion Of Champions Set To Return

August 31, 2015

The Eastern, Western and Central Counties announced the resurrection of the Champion of Champions competition. The games will be hosted by St. David’s CC and played on consecutive Saturdays in September.

On Saturday September 5th Western County champions Willow Cuts take on Central County champions Western Stars. On Saturday September 12th the winners of the first round take on the Eastern County Champions, Cleveland. Both games will be 50 over matches [coloured clothing/white ball] starting at 10am.

The spokesperson for the joint Counties group, Gershon Gibbons stated, “Our focus is to grow cricket and it made sense to start with the resurrection of the Champion of Champions for 2015.

“I am pleased with the joint focus between the counties to provide the support to our member clubs as a priority to strengthen their cricket programs. The next step is to look forward to next year and create the full branding of our joint ventures for Bermuda cricket, which includes focusing on junior cricket and promoting stalwarts of county cricket.

“We will be looking for a title sponsor moving forward and we appreciate the support from the Board and Barritts for coming on board this year to help make it happen.”

Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] President, Lloyd Fray, noted, “I am very proud that the 3 associations have come together, with the support of the Board, to bring back this thrilling series of cricket for the public to enjoy.

“It provides an exceptional boost to an exciting last month of our season, as spectators will have the opportunity to watch clubs battle for title supremacy between the counties.”

The Champion of Champions is being supported by the BCB and by John Barritt and Son Ltd. The entry fee is $10, while seniors and children under 16 are free.
