Robinson & Hassell Awarded Bank Scholarships
The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited announced that its Sir Harry D. Butterfield undergraduate and Sir A. Dudley Spurling Postgraduate Scholarships have been awarded to Jade Robinson and Brittany Hassell, respectively. Both of these awards have an annual value of $25,000.
Ms Robinson graduated from Bermuda institute in 2014 and is currently enrolled at Nova Southeastern University where she will work towards a bachelor’s degree in biology. Her career goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon.

Ms Hassell recently graduated from Aberystwyth University in Wales with a bachelor’s degree in modern languages and business management. She is fluent in French and Spanish. She will begin her postgraduate certificate in education [PGCE] programme at the University of Bristol in September 2015. It is her dream and primary goal to spark the curiosity of students and to encourage their desire to learn a foreign language.
The Sir Harry D. Butterfield undergraduate scholarship is awarded to a Bermudian student commencing, or already pursuing, an undergraduate degree overseas at an accredited university.
This scholarship has been offered every year since 1978 to honour Butterfield’s late chairman, former Rhodes scholar, Sir Harry D. Butterfield, whose distinguished career in public and business life was dedicated to the betterment of Bermuda and Bermudians. The award has an annual value of $25,000.
The Sir A. Dudley Spurling Post graduate Scholarships is awarded to a Bermudian student commencing or pursuing a post-graduate degree at an approved university abroad. this scholarship has been offered every year since 1986 in memory of Sir A. Dudley Spurling; sportsman, former member of education, past Speaker of the House of Assembly and, at the time of his passing, vice-chairman of Butterfield’s board of directors. The award has an annual value of $25,000.
Lee Simmons, chairman of Butterfield’s scholarship committee encouraging talented young Bermudians to dream big and achieve more is a key part of why, for so many years, Butterfield has offered scholarships for post-secondary studies.
“Through the Sir Harry D. Butterfield undergraduate and Sir A. Dudley Spurling Post graduate Scholarships, we’ve helped numerous students rise to their potential and inspire success in others,” added Mr Simmons.
Each year, Butterfield selects scholarship recipients from among hundreds of deserving applicants. Criteria used in selecting scholarship recipients include academic achievement, financial need, character, leadership qualities, civic attainment and involvement and achievements in non-curricular activities, including the arts and sports.
