Marsh And Guy Donates To Three Local Charities

August 24, 2015

Marsh and Guy Carpenter announced today [Aug 24] three $5,000 donations to Knowledge Quest, Salvation Army and WindReach Bermuda.

Knowledge Quest promotes and supports further education for Bermudians of limited financial means. Since 2002, the all-volunteer organisation has provided scholarships and mentoring to more than 150 students in a wide range of disciplines.

The companies’ donation is being used to fund college and university scholarships for academically capable Bermudians in need of financial assistance.

The Marsh and Guy Carpenter’s donation to the Salvation Army Bermuda is supporting the registered charity’s feeding programme. The programme aims to ward off hunger in Bermuda by offering homeless and hungry people a hot meal, six days a week.

The dinners are provided free of cost at the North Street Citadel and approximately 43,000 meals were provided in 2014. In addition to this programme, the Salvation Army Bermuda also operates an in-house addiction treatment programme, a food bank service to provide food and assistance to families and emergency shelter housing.

The third organisation to receive a donation is WindReach, an organisation that aims to enrich the quality of life for people with special needs, including individuals with visual impairments and autism, by providing them with the skills and preparation needed for further education, employment and independent living.

The Marsh and Guy Carpenter donation is supporting WindReach’s Integrated Learning Programme that offers a diversity of educational and recreational activities in an alternative learning environment. There are currently 60 individuals who participate in the programme on a weekly basis.

“Thank you to Marsh and Guy Carpenter for helping us to provide educational assistance to those who need it most and will benefit most,” said Cynthia Cox, Knowledge Quest Director.

“It is through donations like these that we are able to make a huge difference in the lives of these capable and ambitious Bermudians and also help Bermuda by promoting a more educated workforce.”

“Many people in Bermuda rely on our programmes for meals and support. In turn, we rely on the support of private and corporate donors, like Marsh and Guy Carpenter,” said Major Frank Pittman, Divisional Commander, Bermuda Division, Salvation Army.

“I would like to thank the companies for their support of our feeding programme and helping us ensure that no one in Bermuda goes hungry.”

“WindReach is grateful for Marsh and Guy Carpenter’s generous support of our Integrated Learning Programme that enables students to maximize their time on our property and benefit from our unique, therapeutic and purposeful programmes,” said Erica Fulton, Executive Director, WindReach Bermuda.

“Our mission is to enrich the quality of life for people with special needs and we would not be able to do this without the long-time support of generous donors like Marsh and Guy Carpenter.”

“Knowledge Quest, the Salvation Army and WindReach work hard every day to improve the lives of Bermudians across all ages and backgrounds,” said David Ezekiel, Country Corporate Officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Bermuda and Chairman of Marsh’s Bermuda Charity Committee.

“Bermuda is a better place because of these great organisations and it is an honour to support them.”
