BNT Collaborates With College On Studies
From 2pm-5pm today [Sept 25] Bermuda College students will take their learning to Gilbert Nature Reserve – joining forces with the Bermuda National Trust to study endemics and cull invasive species.
The BNT said, “Amy Harvey’s Environmental Studies class – Earth & Environmental Science will be working in the field at the Nature Reserve while learning about Bermuda’s flora & fauna. Dr David Wingate will also be there [2:30pm – 3pm] sharing his knowledge about the detrimental impact of invasive species on our natural environment.
“This combination of community service and experiential learning is a focal point for the Bermuda National Trust’s AIM Programme. Kindly and generously sponsored by John Charman AIM is designed to Activate, Inspire and Motivate students with projects in BNT open spaces, nature reserves, historic buildings and landmarks.
“Combining community service, education and the great outdoors encourages valuable links for youth development and character building while providing pathways for career and vocational ideas and opportunities.
“Gilbert Nature Reserve is a 5 acre piece of land in Sandys surrounding historic Springfield which is presently under restoration and needs community support. We are thrilled to have the Bermuda College assistance and encourage others to contact the Trust if they can help.
“The Trust depends on volunteers for many of its endeavours and their input is invaluable for it to continue its important mission to protect and promote Bermuda’s unique natural and cultural heritage forever.”
