Court Hears Driver Struck Multiple Parked Cars
Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Sept 24] a 62-year-old man admitted driving while under the influence, with the Court hearing that bystanders intervened after he struck multiple parked cars in a supermarket parking lot.
Antonio DaPonte Medeiros, assisted by an interpreter, plead guilty to the incident, with the Court hearing it took place in Lindo’s Devonshire parking lot on September 4th 2015.
The Crown Prosecutor told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that Mr Medeiros had driven into the supermarket’s parking lot and attempted to park the truck that he was driving.
Witnesses saw him collide with a parked car in his first attempt to park. He then sought another parking space and had another collision with a second parked car.
Subsequently, while attempting to leave, he had yet another collision.
Bystanders then took action, alerting shop staff and removing the keys from the ignition of the vehicle that Mr Medeiros was driving. Police were called.
The Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that the total damage done to the other vehicles amounted to over $9,400.
He was fined the maximum of $1,500 and disqualified from driving all vehicles for eighteen months.
