Video: Rai Simons Scores In Chesterfield FC Win
[Updated with video] Bermuda’s Rai Simons scored in the 30th minute of today’s [Sept 8] game, helping his team to a 3-2 win over Doncaster Rovers.
Chesterfield’s match report said, “The Spirietes got their start to the reserve season going with an entertaining 3-2 win over Doncaster Rovers at the Proact.
“The hosts tooks the lead twice through Byron Harrison and Rai Simons twice pegged back by Liam Mandevile. Harrison scored again with 15 minutes left to finally win the game for Chesterfield.
“Jake Orrell had an early chance for the hosts when ten minutes in he profitted on Armand Gnanduillet’s smart through ball, touched aside his defender and shot, but it was too close to Rovers ‘keeper Marko Marosi.
“The Spireites opened the scoring 20 minutes in when a floated Dion Donohue corner found Harrison a foot above all others at the back post and the forward headed home with authority past Marosi.
“However, Mandeville struck back within a minute as the ball bounced just on the edge of the box and he whipped it home past Alex Cairns.
“After Harrison headed over on the stretch the Spireites were back in front with a carving copy of the first: Donohue with the corner, Gnanduillet rising for the header and Simons hooking it home acrobatically on the volley.
“Just before half time and the scores were back even again when Mandeville again pulled out a fine finish, finding the very top right-hand corner when the ball was rolled to him in the area, the score 2-2 at the break.
“After the interval the match the Spireites maintained control and Jake Beesley went close for the hosts after a fine right-wing run, an exchange of passes with Simons but once in the box he screwed his shot and it went some way wide.
“Past the hour mark and Rovers had a glorious chance when Michael Carberry shot from 45 yards, Cairns clawed it out and then Matthew Davies missed an open goal from all of three yards.
“With 15 minutes to go, a lovely ball over the top found Harrison, his initial touch took him wide but he then cut inside and drilled home low into the bottom corner to put the Spireites in front for a third time.”
