Ashay University Holding November Seminars

October 12, 2015

During the month of November, Ashay University will offer three special Saturday seminars to be held at North Village Community Center’s Education Centre.

Mwalimu Melodye Micëre Van Putten, founder of Ashay University, will facilitate the participatory seminars, designed to “educate, enlighten and empower.”

The three seminars are titled ‘Friendship Before Relationship,’ ‘A Meditation in Sacred Thoughts: Intentions and Reflection,’ and ‘Kwanzaa: Philosophy, Values and Praxis’ respectively.

‘Friendship Before Relationship’ will be held on Saturday, November 14 from 10.00am through 12.30pm; ‘A Meditation in Sacred Thoughts: Intentions and Reflection’ will be held on Saturday, November 21 from 10.30am through 12.30pm; and ‘Kwanzaa: Philosophy, Values and Praxis’ will be held on Saturday, November 28 from 10.00am through 12.30pm.

The seminar tuition of $50 includes materials and light refreshments; people must register for each seminar separately, and space is limited.

A spokesperson said, “Friendship Before Relationship is a practical, common-sense approach to the desire to have a successful, long-term relationship. Its basic premise is clear – using the principles of friendship to grow a relationship, learning the person in the context of being good friends.

“It is also identifying and using those same principles to make friends with yourself first and foremost.

“Taking the time to explore your own life is the purpose behind A Meditation in Sacred Thoughts: Intentions and Reflection. Too often, we are so caught up in the busyness of life that we don’t take the time to really think about what we really want and commit to spending our finite time on the planet to fulfill our deepest desires.

“Through poetry, meditation and reflection, this seminar provides the time, safe space and opening for you to get in touch with the lessons of your own life and commit to applying them.

“Kwanzaa is not just another holiday. This informative seminar, Kwanzaa: Philosophy, Values and Praxis delves behind the celebration of Kwanzaa and shares the profound meaning and purpose for the cultural observance of Kwanzaa.

“A must for those you want to know more, as well as those who need to be introduced to this celebration of Black culture and history.

“Ashay University is in its third year offering month-long, African-centered courses for adults. The November Saturday Seminars at North Village allows interested people to get a taste of Ashay U in a half-day forum.”
