October 29, 2015

Men’s Open Singles Number One seed Jenson Bascome made a solid start to his campaign at the Bermuda Clay Court Championships at Coral Beach & Tennis Club when he defeated veteran Dean Mello 6-1 6-0 yesterday [Oct 28].

And unseeded Ashley Brooks moved to the top of the table in the Women’s Open Singles Round Robin when she brushed aside Imani Phillips 6-1 6-0 on the same day that previously undefeated Erika Bove was overcome by resurgent Number One Jacklyn Lambert 2-6 6-4 7-6 in a back and forth match decided by a tiebreaker.

Players in the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles are battling for prize money of $2,000 in each category, with the runners-up due to receive $500 each courtesy of sponsors Moet & Chandon.

Rain did not deter a full slate of matches taking place.

The result of Number 2 seed Gavin Manders’ quarter final with Sam Butler was not available at press time, but in other notable matches, Kim Burns defeated Christine Beaudin 6-1 7-5 in Women’s Open Singles, number one seed in the Men’s 45s, Michael Way, defeated Nick Cardinez 6-0 6-0 and in the Men’s Open Doubles, Romar Douglas and Nicholas Thuell eased past David Benevides and Paul Mosquera 6-1 6-1.

Today [Oct 29] sees 13 matches scheduled, with the Men’s Semi Finals taking centre stage as Bascome takes on unseeded James Finnigan and Coral Beach lead pro Neal Towlson facing off against the winner of the Manders-Butler match.
