Denmark Swimming Team To Train In Bermuda
The Danish National Swim Team has confirmed that they will be in Bermuda for training this winter as they prepare for the 2016 summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to come to Bermuda,” said Denmark’s Head Swimming Coach Nick Juba. “We are looking forward to it very much.”
“The team’s training camp in Bermuda was facilitated through a strategic partnership between the National Sports Centre [NSC] and the Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA], which allows visiting teams to use the facilities at the National Sports Centre based upon the scope of the event and its impact on the island,” the BTA said.
“In this case, the Danish team and coaching staff of about 20 men and women – including a world record-holder, an Olympic medallist and a world champion – will train in the NSC pool over a two-week period beginning in late January 2016. They will stay at Coco Reef Hotel.”
“As we explained in September we have seen very good traction in the early days of this agreement, but the Danish National Swim Team coming here to prepare for the 2016 Olympics is easily the most high profile visit since the agreement took effect in April,” said BTA’s Chief Product and Experiences Development Officer Pat Phillip-Fairn.
“Naturally we’re very excited. The Danes confirm that our strategy of Bermuda as a sports training ground is a winning strategy, especially as it relates to the shoulder season.”

Coach Juba says while in Bermuda they will be “dress-rehearsing” conditions in Rio including acclimatisation and race start times. He’s especially interested in taking advantage of Bermuda’s time zone similarities to Rio’s.
Mr Juba said: “The pressure for television coverage has resulted in the heats starting at 14:00 hours rather than morning-time and the evening finals starting at 22:00 hours. We will be trying to adjust to these out of the ordinary demands whilst we are in Bermuda.”
“Between now and March we have visiting college teams using our facilities, high school teams and now an Olympic team,” said NSC Aquatics & Fitness Manager Amy Fox.
“This is exactly what was envisaged when we focused in on the winter months as part of our agreement with the BTA. I think it’s fair to say this is just the beginning.”
The BTA said, “Members of the public with connections to international sports teams and associations that may consider training in Bermuda should explore the BTA’s Bring It Home Campaign. Visiting sports groups may be eligible for assistance in covering the cost of using NSC facilities.
Nice but I think somebody might have misled them about our winter temperatures if they’re expecting to acclimatized to Rio while they’re here.
You really think that the Danish OLYMPIC swim team was just stupid enough to sit in a chair and listen to someone try to pitch them a venue without doing their due diligence themselves??????? Come with better hater material than that! You MUST be stupider than you sound.
You never know. The French were dumb enough to spend hundred of millions buying trains that wouldn’t fit in their trains stations. Bermudians spent hundred of thousands of dollars on handicapped access buses that wouldn’t work on our roads. The Americans spent $43 million building a single gas station in Kabul.
When it comes to bureaucracies you should never underestimate stupidity in the face of a good sales pitch.
I have a bridge to sell.
Well if they are that stupid then WHO CARES???? What do we owe the Danish??????? If they want to come here and SPEND then lets be HAPPY….WHY COMPLAIN???? ARE YOU DANISH???? Do you have a connection to their country, to their people, to their swim team, to their bank account?? I just don’t understand the comment. WHO CARESSSSSS?????? They are coming to our island shores spending money in a month that NO ONE comes. Surely it will be a better location then Denmark in December which averages at 2 degrees Celsius. You know how I know that??? This mysterious tool called the Internet. Took me 2 seconds to find….I’ve never been to Denmark so I MAY be wrong…but I believe the Danish have Internet and can perform the same search that I did….just sayin
Rio will be in winter during the olympic games.
Rio will be around 62-72 degrees when the summer Olympics it. Minus some of our cold marine air in the morning- should be around the samw
It’s amazing that when there is good news no one posts. Come on, where are you BTA bashers? Get with it.

While I do appreciate this most incredible news , it should have happened much sooner .
They don’t want to peak too early.
It always fun to look at the beginning of these types of projects and see the bernews comment sections: http://bernews.com/2015/09/growing-sports-tourism-core-new-partnership-agreement/
