Berkeley Institute Forms New “Prefect Council”

The Berkeley Institute has formed a new Prefect Council which provides an enhanced opportunity for student leaders to promote the school’s core values regarding academic excellence, student conduct, leadership, and development by encouraging and reinforcing positive behavior among their peers.

It is led by the six Head Students and five Council officers, and will provide leadership and some supervision to teams of School-wide and Year Level Prefects with whom they will perform assigned duties.

This council will be empowered to reward positive behavior through the dissemination of merits and to monitor detentions for selected minor infractions.

The Prefect Council: Chioke McGhie-Raynor,  Imani Smith, Amali Smith, Azende Furbert, Amari Ebbin, Nia Dailey, Dejanee Hil-Edwards, , Kyrsten Burrows, Ayo Salawu, and mentors Mrs. Keisha Allen-Smith and Dr. Curtis-Tweed.  Not pictured are Kimika Jackson and Tori Cariah.

These student leaders will also formulate and execute special projects to promote the core values and mission of The Berkeley Institute.   To date, members of the Prefect Council have initiated a Kindness campaign, plan to provide tutorial support to their peers during Study Hall, and are developing a fun week of academic activities.

The Prefect Council is supervised by the Principal and faculty members of the school’s Leadership Committee.
