Police: “Remain Vigilant” Regarding Scam Calls
The police are reminding the public to “remain vigilant regarding phone calls, e-mails and other correspondence from unknown persons,” saying they received reports of a man with an accent calling residents claiming to be a technician assisting in the prevention of the home computer being hacked into.
A police spokesperson said, “Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding phone calls, e-mails and other correspondence from unknown persons that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.
“In the most recent example, reports were received Monday evening [November 9th] of a male person with an accent, calling local residents claiming to be a Microsoft technician or representative from California.
“The unknown caller went on to state that he was calling to assist in the prevention of the home computer being hacked into.
“Members of the public should be wary of anyone calling to provide instructions regarding upgrading computer security or banking detail verification and ideally, such calls should be ignored.”
