Golf: Aon Benfield Fecchio Cup Day #1 Results

December 22, 2015

The steady Port Royal breeze combined with the quick greens made life difficult for the Juniors on Day One of the 2015 Aon Benfield Fecchio Cup yesterday [Dec 21], but they made for a great equalizer as all Divisions are fairly tight at the top.

Dakota Lamb was going well on the front nine in the Championship Division, making the turn at 4-over par, but struggled on the more exposed back nine to finish with a 17 over par score of 88. Kenny Leseur figured out the greens but put himself in trouble too many times off the tee and sits only one shot back after finishing with an 89, while Samson Douglas is in third after a 97.

2015 Fecchio Cup - Round 1 scoring

Port Royal is a long, tough course at the best of times and even the relatively mild conditions today resulted in some higher than expected scores, so to ensure that the event is both competitive and enjoyable, the Bermuda Junior Golf Association [BJGA] created a 12 Hole Red Tee Division.

The two BJGA members back for Christmas break from boarding school have taken a slim lead Joe Watson and Alex Withers-Clarke each shot rounds of 64 for the 12 holes, 1 shot ahead of Ryan Clements. There is a group of players including Kian Mooney [73], Marcos Furr and Benjamin Betschart [both 74], a little further behind but by no means out of touch.

In the Novice Division, which is played over 6 holes per day, Callum Pearce has taken an early lead after a round of 40. The other three players in the division are tightly bunched with Finn Moseley, Finn Watson and Eliza Withers-Clarke scoring 47, 48 and 51, respectively.
