Oil Tanker Makes Stop In Bermuda For Ill Crew

The oil tanker ‘Emerald Shiner’ made a stop in Bermuda on Saturday [Dec 19] in order to disembark an ill crew member, with the 24-year-old Ukrainian national treated at KEMH.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations spokeperson said, “On Saturday, December 19 at 5.02am, Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was contacted by the Marshall Islands registered Oil Tanker “Emerald Shiner”, reporting that the vessel is inbound to Bermuda to disembark an ill crew member, a 24-year-old Ukrainian national suffering from abdominal pains and in need of medical assistance.

“The vessel, originally en route from New Orleans to Barcelona, diverted to the island with the intention to disembark the patient via pilot boat ‘St George’. At 8.00am, the patient was successfully disembarked to the pilot boat ‘St. George’ and taken by taxi to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital; M/T ‘Emerald Shiner’ resumed her voyage to Barcelona, Spain.
