George Duckett Memorial Rugby On Saturday
On Saturday January 9th, the Bermuda Police Rugby Football Club will host the George Duckett Memorial Rugby Tournament at Police Field in Prospect.
George Duckett was a former Commissioner of Police who was assassinated in 1972. Mr. Duckett was a larger than life Commissioner who had a commanding presence and stood at 6’5” tall and was well known as an ardent rugby fan.
In 1973, the Bermuda Police Rugby Section commenced an annual memorial game which is at present the longest running memorial game in Bermuda.
The BPRFC will play a Bermuda Select side, the “best of the rest”, while the second XV will play an under 19 select side. The BPRFC Ladies first and second teams will play select sides from the other ladies teams.
Serving Officers, former colleagues, and ‘Faded Blues’ [former police rugby players] and rugby fans from across the Island continue to show their respect by attending this BPS sporting tradition.
