Tennis: Terry Smith Elected As ABTC President

Resident Pro at the W E R Joell National Tennis Stadium, Terry Smith has been elected as the President of the All Bermuda Tennis Club [ABTC] during a Special General Meeting of the Club held on Friday January 15, 2016.

Mr. Smith, a well-known Tennis Administrator, Certified Teaching Professional, BLTA Past President and National Coach, was elected to lead a five-member Executive Committee that includes Grant Smith [Vice President]; Ms. Charmaine Thomas [Treasurer]; Larry Samuels [Secretary]; Major Barrett Dill [Assistant Secretary], all selected by unanimous vote.

During his acceptance speech, Mr. Smith outlined the objectives of the ABTC for the next two years. Foremost among them will be a focus on growing the Club to and beyond its former prominence, through Membership drive and youth development. The President implored Club members to take responsibility for recruiting new members, especially Family and youth players.

In an effort to grow membership, the Club will establish a Membership sub-committee and build a Calendar of Events, to enhance the Tennis experience for its current Members and attract new players.

The Club also established a Social Committee led by Ms. Natasha Burrows-Smith with the assistance of Mrs. Janeka Fishenden and Denton Leader.

The All Bermuda Tennis Club [ABTC] was founded in 1959 and is one of Bermuda’s longest operating Tennis Clubs, boasting a legacy of being the stepping stone for many of the Island’s former Tennis Champions.
