Speed Networking For High School Students
This week BFIS is holding three Speed Networking Lunches specifically for high school seniors from each of Bermuda’s high schools.
Monday, February 22 was aimed at students interested in Actuarial Science or Law and was held in the BFIS offices. Wednesday was for students who wanted to learn more about careers in accounting or finance and was held at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Friday’s event is for those students who want to find out more about careers in the insurance sector in general and is being held at XL Catlin.
Over 60 students who are graduating this year have the opportunity to get advice and career information from a similar number of volunteering insurance sector and related industry professionals. The 6 minute ‘speed interview’ sessions are followed by general networking over a sandwich lunch.
Cathy Lapsley, Executive Director of BFIS said, “The feedback from the students is, as always extremely positive.
“It is often the first time they have discussed their career aspirations with people who they do not know personally, and as well as gaining information it teaches them valuable interview techniques.
“The contacts they make can have a huge influence on their careers and we cannot thank the professionals enough for volunteering their time”.
BFIS extended their thanks the Aon Rhondelle Tankard Memorial Fund which sponsors the BFIS Mentor Networking Programme, and PwC and XL Catlin for providing the venues. More BFIS Speed Networking events will be held over the summer for undergraduate students.
