Ministry: ‘No Bus Service On Monday Morning’
The Transport Ministry has confirmed that “there will be no bus service Monday morning as a result of industrial action.”
A spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Tourism Development and Transport wishes to advise the public that there will be no bus service Monday morning as a result of industrial action.
“The Ministry apologises for this development and will keep the public advised on the status of service.”
The initial withdrawal of labour on Friday resulted in the suspension of bus, ferry and garbage collection services, and people are expected to gather again tomorrow morning.

It’s not a strike, it’s a “withdrawal of labor” according to the people who are directing the opposition to anything they decide that they want to protest against because it does not suit their agenda.
“withdrawal of labor” is of course just weasel words, used to try to hide the fact that of course this is an illegal strike.
As it is not an official BIU strike, then the BIU should not complain when the people aren’t paid for not going to work.

Same sex unions were guaranteed safe passage through the Supreme courts of Bermuda, and a deadline was given for February 29th 2016, So while we are Pre-Occupied with Immigration reform, and we should be keeping it to the fore front, There are applications that folk are processing to give these same sex couples rights to bring their significant others the right to come here, so while we are trying to keep the flood gates from opening to new work permit holders coming through our front door of immigration, they are slipping these applications into place and sooner then we think they will be upon our shores.
Then we still have the same problem, of foreigners coming here and taking jobs that we are entitled to, based on sexual orientation.

The people should learn from Gov. The Gov didn’t care about the school children when they were trying to force furlough days on the teachers. Which would have meant children would have missed school as a result of furlough days. The people should file injunctions against Gov when they forcing things down their throat. But then again it seems the court cares nothing about Bermudians either.

My understanding that Unions were originally formed approx. 150 years to represent the workers in regards to safer working conditions, long hours, low pay, child labour, health benefits etc. In this case it appears that the hierarchy of the BTUC are passing the proverbial buck to the members to strike illegally without taking any responsibility for it themselves. Sweet. This is a political issue not a grievance issue. Its a slippery slope when a political party, in this case the Opposition, can call on the Unions to strike. The withdrawal of essential services won’t affect the outcome of this immigration issue/legislation. It’s a done deal. As an unemployed/ barely self employed Bermudian still paying taxes, I don’t have the job security like those who may strike. You have a job to return to. No risk. No real financial pain. No real sacrifice… unlike those men and women 150 years ago who fought and in some cases died for a Union that provide you with that blanket of security you enjoy today. Please think when you consider going on strike. the disruption and effect on the struggling local businesses, our visitors spending money on our island, and the average citizen trying to earn a living and relies on your services/help to ‘stay afloat’ on this island we call home. I’ll be giving people lifts to work tomorrow morning and taking my trash to the dump.
Industrial action? This must surely be a clear breach of the CBA as this is a political, not industrial, action. Why do we taxpayers have to continue to pay for these stoppages, let alone pay for more debt to enable the “workers” to receive their pay for not working. Let the BIU pay them.

Get the Army in to operate the buses, or at least get them out training if the buses are not running, this way the island can not be held to ransom by a minority.
I will be traveling into Hamilton from the Keith Hall Road area tomorrow at about 7:15am. I have a small car but, if anyone needs a ride into town from my neighborhood I would be happy to take them.

I have 4 vans in my “fleet”. I am dispatching my guys to pick up people at bus stops tomorrow morning and give them a lift. I will tell my customers why we are late. Bermudians and Bermuda comes first for me. We will overcome. Pathways to success.
There is so much hatred for the unions. I don’t see where the non union supporters who choose not to pay membership dues turn down the benefits awarded for the positions.
