Video: Bermuda’s Medal Winning Team Returns

Bermuda’s Carifta swimming team returned to the island after making an outstanding showing at the 2016 Carifta Swimming Championships in Martinique, with Bermuda collecting an impressive 20 medals in the pool as well as an open water medal.

Bermuda finished the event with 208 points alongside Aruba, Guadeloupe were crowned the overall champions with 796 points, with Bahamas finishing second with 774.5 points and Martinique finishing third with 586.5 points.

Bermuda’s swimmers won 8 gold medals, 6 silver and 6 bronze for a total of 20 medals in the pool, and 1 gold medal in the open water swim.

Emma Harvey won the 100m freestyle [59.34], 50m backstroke [30.43], 50m butterfly [28.44], 100m butterfly [1:03.50], 200m IM [2:26.69], 400m IM [5:16.20] and open water 5k 13-14 Age Group.

She set new Championship Records for the 13-14 year old age group in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke as well as the 50m and 100m butterfly.

Emma Harvey also won the silver medals during the 13-14 women’s 50m breaststroke, the 13-14 women’s 200m backstroke and the 13-14 women’s 100m backstroke.

Madelyn Moore picked up gold medals in the women’s 50m breaststroke and the women’s 50m freestyle as a silver medal during the 15-17 women’s 100m freestyle.

Shannon Hassell captured a silver medal when she finished second in the 15-17 women’s 100m backstroke, while Logan Watson-Brown won the silver medal competing in the 11-12  100m freestyle, and also won the bronze medal in the 11-12 50m breaststroke.

Vanessa Esposito picked up the bronze medal competing in the 15-17 400m freestyle, while Jesse Washington picked up a bronze medal competing in the 15-17 men’s 100m freestyle.

Also winning two bronze medals was Sam Williamson, he finished third competing in the 11-12 breaststroke and he finished third during the 11-12 100m breaststroke, while Jack Harvey won the other bronze medal taking part in the 11-12 200m backstroke.
