[Written by Jasmine Patterson, Bermuda Broadcasting Co.]
A Supreme Court jury today cleared two brothers who had been accused of wounding.
Melvin Brangman, 47, was found not guilty of wounding carpenter Clifton Anderson, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. His brother Michael Brangman, 45, was cleared of being an accessory to the crime after the fact.
After nearly four hours of deliberations, the jury found the brothers not guilty by a majority of 10 to 2.
The Crown had alleged that Mr. Anderson was slashed on his neck with a machete after visiting the Brangman residence in Sandy’s on June 18, 2015. Mr. Anderson was reportedly there to inquire about payment for carpentry work.
It was alleged Melvin Brangman stabbed Mr. Anderson, causing him to flee on foot towards the Four Star Restaurant on Somerset Road, where members of the public stepped in to help.
Both brothers denied the allegations during police interviews.
