Harneys Promotes Bermuda Practice In Asia
This week, Harneys hosted several events in Asia in order to promote the launch of its Bermuda practice, with Sarah-Jane Hurrion, Managing Partner of Harneys Bermuda, Michael Burns, Head of Corporate and Fiduciary, and Stuart Old, Director, delivering seminars in Hong Kong covering the island’s role in the international economy and its global leadership in the reinsurance, captives, and ILS markets.
Sarah-Jane Hurrion, Managing Partner of Harneys Bermuda, said, “This is an ideal time to reinforce messages about Bermuda’s position as the world’s largest captive domicile, and one of the top three reinsurance centres worldwide.
“Harneys is pleased to be part of the effort to enhance Bermuda’s reputation and bring business to the island, and continue to build a leading full-service legal and fiduciary practice here.”
A spokesperson said, “Harneys also hosted a Bermuda-themed event in Hong Kong to mark the launch of its Bermuda practice. The firm had copies of its textbook, Bermuda Commercial Law, on hand; the book was published this month by Thomson Reuters and provides a definitive, up-to-date and authoritative guide to Bermuda law.
“In recent years, Harneys has grown to become one of the largest offshore law firms in Hong Kong, and combined with offices in Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai has a strong presence in Asia.
“The firm continues to build relationships between Asia and Bermuda, and recently hired ILS and re/insurance specialist Michael Skrbic in Bermuda, who has longstanding relationships with financial institutions in Asia. Earlier this year, the firm also seconded Bermudian lawyer Lilla Zuill to its Hong Kong office.
“Within its first six months, Harneys has rapidly established its practice in Bermuda. The firm recently launched a Fiduciary offering on the island, and with more than 22 staff and nine lawyers, plans to announce additional growth in the coming weeks and months.
“Harneys has offices in many global markets including Asia, London and South America, which drive a significant amount of business to Bermuda and have acted as a platform for its growth on the island.”
