Survey: Online Shopping Increasing In Bermuda
Online shopping is increasing in all of the islands — including Bermuda — monitored worldwide by Island Global Research, with the research firm saying it “has now become a very important element in island economic and social measurement and planning.
The company said, “The results reveal that 39% of respondents from Bermuda, 55% from the Isle of Man, 60% from Jersey, and 54% from Guernsey said that their expenditure on online shopping had ‘increased’ or ‘increased a lot’ in 2015 over 2014.
“Overall, this is over half of all respondents. For the Channel Islands and Isle of Man these are similar percentages to last year [this is the first year Bermuda has been included in this survey], indicating the ever growing importance of purchasing online to the island based consumer.
“Price was the most important factor that caused respondents to shop online in Guernsey and Jersey, whilst convenience was the most important in the Isle of Man. Product range and choice came out top in Bermuda.
“The opportunities and challenges to local businesses created by this growth are profound not only in the three Crown Dependencies and Bermuda, but also in every other island jurisdiction worldwide.
“Insights from the 2015 Online Purchase Trends Survey are essential for informing business development for traditional on-island retailers, as well as for online retailers and couriers which have island based customers.”
