Marcus Scotland Starts New Season In UK
Marcus Scotland, the 13-year-old UK-based cricketer, has just begun his second full season representing Surrey, Surrey [Inner London] and local club Spencer CC.
He top-scored for Bermuda during last summer’s UK Under-14 Development Tour scoring 193 runs with an average of 64.33 that included 3 half-centuries in 5 innings.
Along with his winter training, Marcus has managed to meet several of the world’s best cricketers, past and present. They include Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Mark Ramprakash, Michael Carberry, Dean Headley, Ian Salisbury and Alex Tudor [all from England] and the Sri Lankan legend, Kumar Sangakkara.
In this season’s first two matches Marcus scored 25 and 36 in low scoring wins in typical English early-season cold, swinging and seaming conditions. His first match for Surrey U13s takes place on June 1.
Lloyd Fray, President of the Bermuda Cricket Board, said, “I am very pleased with Marcus’ continued progress. The BCB is supporting a number of young players, boys and girls, in the UK and we are very heartened that Marcus’ skill development is progressing at an excellent rate.”
