Dr Gibbons Interviewed On Chicago WGN Radio

June 10, 2016

Economic Development Minister Dr. Grant Gibbons was interviewed this morning [June 10] on “The Opening Bell with Steve Grzanich” show on Chicago’s WGN radio station.

Dr. Gibbons talked about about Bermuda’s quality reputation as an international financial centre, particularly in the wake of attacks on offshore centres related to the Panama Papers, and also spoke about Bermuda’s global economic contribution, the island’s reinsurance sector, its respected regulatory environment, and the America’s Cup 2017.

The Minister is in Chicago, along with Bermuda Business Development Agency CEO Ross Webber and others, for meetings and media interviews leading into the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series being staged in the city this weekend.

“While in Chicago, representing Bermuda for the AC Louis Vuitton World Series races, I participated in a popular Chicago morning radio show, ‘The Opening Bell’ on WGN,” said Dr. Gibbons.

“Chicago is a major financial centre in the US, so it was a great opportunity to talk about the contributions that Bermuda makes to the US and global commerce, particularly in the reinsurance sector, and also to dispel some of the myths around Bermuda as an offshore financial centre following the Panama Papers.

“Bermuda has had a strong relationship with the United States over hundreds of years and it was also a good opportunity to reinforce those close historical connections.”

You can hear the interview here, with the segment with Dr Gibbons available between the 15:12 and 25:50 mark.

How nice for Bermuda to be represented by such an educated, intelligent, dignified, knowledgeable ‘son of the soil’ who has the interest and success of Bermuda and Bermudians at heart. Thank you Hon. Gibbons. GO OBA !
