Two Men Arrested In Connection With Murder

June 22, 2016

[Updated] Two men — 26 and 31 years old — have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Fiqre Crockwell, the police confirmed today.

Mr Crockwell, a well known cricketer, was shot dead earlier this week on Woodlands Road in Pembroke, and the police held a press conference today to provide an update on the investigation.

The video above shows one portion of today’s press conference and we will update as able with the second video and text of the comments.

Anyone with any information about the murder of Mr Crockwell is asked to contact Acting Detective Inspector Kenten Trott at the Serious Crime Unit on 717-2345 or the confidential and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.

Update 3.52pm: Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels said, “I wish to begin by extending sincere condolences on behalf of the Bermuda Police Service to the family, friends, close community and sporting colleagues of 30 year old St. George’s resident Fiqre Crockwell, who tragically lost his life on Monday morning.

“This has been an extremely traumatic experience for everyone involved especially considering the number of people who were present in the Woodlands Road area at the time of the shooting.

“The negative impact a single incident like this has on the community as a whole is profound, especially when we consider that Mr. Crockwell was a young man who was in the prime of his life, a father, brother, uncle, son and friend.

“This marks the second shooting death of 2016 and the 29th overall since 2009, when Bermuda began to experience an increase in violence involving firearms.

“When we consider that 29 men have lost their lives to gun violence and 63 on our roads alone in the preceding 6 years this has to cause concern in the Bermuda community with continuous loss of our young men.

“Tackling criminal gangs is the number one priority for The Bermuda Police Service.

“We continue to review our operational deployments and strategies with the aim of focusing our efforts on those individuals who are likely to cause the most harm to our community.

“We always encourage victims, and indeed witnesses to come forward and talk to officers. It is also incumbent on the community to stand together and support each other when faced with those bent on destabilizing our society.

“The Bermuda Police Service continues to be both thankful and encouraged by those willing to do that.

“Currently there are two men in police custody and I will now hand over to Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) Acting Detective Inspector Kenten Trott who will provide an update on the investigation.

Acting Detective Inspector Kenten Trott said, “At 02:57am on Monday 20th June 2016 the first call was received regarding a disturbance on Woodlands Road in Pembroke Parish.

“Moments later another called was received stating that there had been a shooting at that location. Police officers quickly attended the scene and found the victim, 30 year old Fiqre Crockwell.

“An officer provided first aid to Mr. Crockwell until he was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“A full investigation immediately commenced into the circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting.

“During the course of this investigation, search warrants have been conducted and other investigative leads pursued, which led to the arrest of two men – 26 and 31 years old respectively – in connection with this incident.

“There were people in the immediate area where the shooting took place and we are appealing to all those who were there to come forward and assist with the investigation, if they have not done so already.

“And we would like to thank those witnesses that have already come forward.

“Police continue to actively conduct enquiries into the murder of Fiqre Crockwell and urge anyone with information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”

The systemic social and mental damage that has plagued the Black community, whereby we were considered less then Humans centuries ago, is taking its toll espcially by those that are brain damaged and believe it.
      Sad

If you know something, say something. Ooh wait, you will wait until you are impacted by a similar situation. It’s best to be pro-active then reactive.

    • wahoo says:

    • TiredofIgnorance says:

If you know so much DO/SAY SOMETHING! Being negative about police trying to do their job isn’t helping so try staying quiet behind your computer screen. People is Bermuda expect so much from pice but if ferry nothing! But when it’s someone you know, you want all of the island to support you..

    • Lovelife says:

You’re dumb. I mean that in the nicest way.

How smart can they be if they shot him at the end of a party on a public holiday in a public area with numerous witnesses present.

      Smart?? Very.

I hope they get what they deserve, no man has the right to steal another’s life. This generation lacks the Holy Spirit.

Fiqre’s family deserves justice! “They” did him dirty all too reminiscent of the spree of lives taken years ago!

  8. Mr.Speaker says:

  14. TiredofIgnorance says:

*police but do nothing (autocorrect smh)

  15. Coffee says:

I’d like to ask Micheal Dunkley and Jeff Baron and the rest of them bie’s if this is what the eradication of gun violence looks like ? Why are we still burying young black males owing to gun violence 31/2 years into the UBP/BDA/OBA government ?
I hope the men in custody are the murderers .

    • CCT says:

I don’t understand how you feel it’s the present government’s fault! The report indicates statistics since the gun violence started to escalate in 2009, which is when the PLP were in power!! This is seven years later, so, in my estimation, the PLP are equally responsible don’t you think? Stop blaming the government and put the blame where it belongs – on the young men who are killing each other!

    • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Why are you still flogging a non issue..?? Your coffee must be cold bie .

    • aceboy says:

Look to your own community for the answers. These young males are stealing and robbing and carrying out vendettas against each other. It isn’t about poverty, this is about lawless behavior for the sake of money and *power*.

  16. OBSERVER says:

Well done, police. We are all hoping that these are the correct culprits. Once they are, get them off of Bermuda’s streets.

  17. Round Robin says:

Its funny when cowardly punks comment on how the police need to step up their game yet they are the first to call and happy to see them when they get in confrontations and need the police. These punks are wanna-be gangsters!

  18. Onionjuice says:

Arrest two men… then what ?, Will go to court and get 1 or 2 years imprisonment WOW

  19. O.M.G says:

I can’t believe all the ignorant comments I have heard today about all this S. Stop making excuses for these crimes and start getting involved with finding the criminals. It’s not any of the governments fault or the police they are doing the best they can and I think they are working very hard. Please become MEN and make a change it will have to start with the family’s you should know what your children are doing. Very very sad

  20. Grace says:

Enough. This a community problem. All of us BERMUDIANS, irrespective of race, religion, political affiliation, socioeconomic back ground etc need to come together-now. Bermuda, our beautiful little island home and our way of life is being attacked.
We have to make a decision, will we stand together as one people and fight? Fight for good, fight to preserve our island home for ourselves and future generations.
We have to join with the police, the churches, the schools, the government agencies, private groups etc. to do all that we can to turn this around. Every life matters. Why aren’t we gathering? not in protest of the government but in support of each other, the police etc. Why are we not making recommendations, demanding that WE do more ourselves? Do we not care? IS it the NIMBY syndrome? All of Bermuda is our back yard. The “Government” can not fix this, the previous administration can not fix this, nor will the next one. Who will emerge as the leader to call all of us all together? Rev….? Pastor……. Sir…..Mr…..Mrs…? unions? etc. etc
Are we ready to make whatever sacrifice we need to make, put fort whatever effort we need to stop this? Let’s start with getting together (like so many did in protest/support in April, last year against furlough days etc, but this time to support and PRAY. Form non-denominational prayer groups, from there we can decide on other ways to address this. Please, politicians, and negative rhetorical fear mongers with a self-serving agenda – stay away.

  21. Oh,I see now says:

The reasons these thugs are killing are becoming more absurd by the minute if what I heard is true…..God help us!

  22. Some beach says:

    That was quick…nice expidite.
