‘Our Kind Of Traitor’ & ‘Tickled’ Films To Screen

A British spy thriller based on a novel by John le Carré, and a stranger-than-fiction documentary that has screened at more than 20 festivals, are to feature at the Weekend Film Series on Sunday July 17.

Screening at 3pm, “Our Kind of Traitor” stars Ewan McGregor, Naomie Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Damian Lewis.

A British couple [McGregor and Harris] on holiday in Marrakech unwittingly get involved with the Russian mafia when they agree to make a delivery to the British Secret Services.

Suddenly caught up in the world of international espionage, they are propelled on a perilous journey with dramatic consequences. The film is rated ‘R’ for “violence, language throughout, some sexuality, nudity, and brief drug use”.

Screening at 5.15pm, Tickled is about the stranger-than-fiction world uncovered by Kiwi journalist David Farrier after he stumbles upon an online video about competitive endurance tickling wherein young men are paid to be tied up and tickled.

Warned off the story, he instead pursues it with vigour – and discovers a murky world of secret identities, criminal activity, and cyberbullying.

With humour and determination, Mr Farrier and co-director Dylan Reeve summon up every resource available to get to the bottom of a spectacular tale that begins with a focus on an odd fetish and develops into a cautionary tale for the Internet age.

The film, which is rated ‘R’ in the United States for “language”, is also on theatrical release in New Zealand, where the film is rated ‘M’ [Mature] for “offensive language and sexual themes”.
